Armée de l'Air Rafale Solo Display
Country | France |
Base | BA 113 Saint-Dizier |
Aircraft | 1 x Rafale C |
Demonstrating the flying qualities of the Dassault Rafale and the French Air Force's fighter pilots, the Rafale Solo Display performs at roughly 15 air shows per year, mostly in France and larger shows in the neighbouring countries, but have also included major international air shows around the world such as RIAT, MAKS, Dubai Air Show, Aero India, and LIMA Malaysia.
The Rafale aircraft, generally a Rafale C single-seater, and solo display pilots and supporting team members come from the Rafale squadrons of Base aérienne 113 Saint-Dizier. The Rafale Solo Display pilot generally is appointed for two display seasons and supported by a coach, who had been the demo pilot previously.
For the first few years the Rafale aircraft used for displays was seen in the standard livery sometimes with minor markings, but nowadays it is becoming more common to use a Rafale with a colourful scheme temporarily applied for a particular occasion that year.
The schedule is announced in April following the last weeks of the season's training, which takes place at Base aérienne 126 Solenzara on Corsica, with the regular display season commencing in May.
